Just curious, I've read a lot and heard about summer internships, but what skills are exactly looked for in summer internship applicants? I mean I've heard that if you know French, German, or Italian, can do C++ language, or can do visual basics, or are proficient at powerpoint and excel, your resume and overall appeal will look better throughout the application process. I mean I hear pretty consistently that if you land an internship and do well, you'll get a full time offer, assuming you network well within the industry during the internship of course. However, what skills and extra curriculars make you look more impressive to the recruiters? I mean sure GPA is obviously a factor, but are clubs, knowledge of computer programs/applications, and foreign languages a plus? Also, just to let you know, I am currently a freshman undergraduate thinking about applying for the JP Morgan summer internship program.

By the way, THANK YOU for this site, I'm finding t quite helpful.

I don't know much about corporate banking, but the same types of skills would probably be of some use. The #1 thing you need is a good attitude, regardless of the industry - lots of people overlook that and try to suck up too much, be really formal, etc. and all of that is a mistake. Be positive, seek out work, and do what everyone tells you to and that is 90% of the battle.

I noticed that for IB interns, modelling and excel skills are important. How about for interns in corporate banking? Any advice on what skills/knowledge will be good to have?

Thanks!
